Cowboys WR Brandin Cooks on Dak Prescott Leadership: 'I'll Follow Him into Battle!'

New Dallas Cowboys receiver Brandin Cooks raves about quarterback Dak Prescott's leadership

Receiver Brandin Cooks finally made his way to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason after countless rumors. Now that he has arrived in Big D, he's ready to make an impact on a winning team.

"I think the biggest attraction is, obviously, they've been winning," Cooks said on 105.3 The Fan’s “GBag Nation” show. "They've got a great group of men around here."

As part of that process, Cooks is forming chemistry with those around him and especially quarterback Dak Prescott. The two-time Pro Bowl selection has been the leader of the offense for years now, and it didn't take long for him to leave a strong impression on Cooks.

“The biggest thing that jumped off the bat to me is that I’ll follow Dak into a frontline already,” Cooks said. “I mean, his leadership skills (are) unbelievable. ... To be relatively so young, in a sense in this league, the way that he can lead his offense, lead this team, it’s contagious, and it makes everyone around him better.”

Cooks has had no matter where he's playing, posting at least one 1,000-yard season with each of his four previous teams. Last season, Cooks had a respectable 57 catches for 699 yards and three touchdowns on a Houston Texans team that finished at the bottom of the AFC.

Even with better talent around him in Dallas, Cooks is determined to bring the same work ethic that has brought him this far.

“I think the biggest thing is, for me, I think about just keeping my standard with the way that I show up with the way that I work,” Cooks said. “As long as I keep that, it doesn’t matter what building I’m under, I feel like I’ll always have success.

“So that’s my mindset coming in, buying into the culture but to keep my standard so everyone else can either match or surpass it but having that standard of just wanting to work and be the best that I can possibly be, I think that’s one of the keys.”

Surely, Prescott's leadership skills have played a part in Cooks' early commitment to the Cowboys - with Cowboys Nation hoping leadership can be parlayed into playoff success.
