Cowboys' Brandin Cooks Reveals Injury Update: 'No Limitations ... If!'

Dallas Cowboys veteran Brandin Cooks was a noticeable absentee at walkthrough practice due to a knee injury, but has he allayed any fears over potentially missing Sunday vs. the New York Jets?

The Dallas Cowboys are riding high after their 40-0 thumping of the New York Giants on Sunday night, and as attention turns to the other New York team, something rather intriguing has come about.

Veteran receiver Brandin Cooks was a DNP for Wednesday's walkthrough practice at The Star with a knee injury. This, of course, sent Cowboys fans into a tailspin, but it has been reported (wrongly?) that it could have simply been a veteran's day off, something that he found useful when he played in Houston.

And now we have heard from the man himself on the issue.

“Yeah, I feel good,” Cooks said.

When asked if he was limited in any way by his knee issue, Cooks replied, “Oh no, if I’m out there, there’s no limitations.”

Right. So "if" he's out there. ... he's out there "if.'' But ... doesn't that mean Cooks' status for Sunday's game against the Jets remains in doubt?

"That's something you can talk to coach (Mike McCarthy) about," Cooks said.

Maybe Cooks and Dallas remain tight-lipped on the issue so as not to give the Jets any idea about whether he will play. But McCarthy didn't seem to be playing games when asked about his receiver's health.

“He hurt (his knee) during the game. …He’s doing OK. … He’s going to try to do a little more (on Thursday)," the coach said.

Additionally, the NFL doesn't really allow for too much gamesmanship in these matters. The injury report, as we presented it to Cowboys Nation on Wednesday, is "official'' in nature. Cooks' presence on it means there is an injury of some degree.

In theory ... Given how early it is in the season, any little bumps and bruises can be easily taken care of, and many Cowboys fans hope that Cooks is simply sitting out practice as a precaution as to not worsen what is a mild ailment.

In any event, all eyes will be on Cooks in practice on Thursday to see if that knee does really "feel good." ... and CowboysSI.com will be inside The Star to update Cowboys Nation.
