'The Drought!' Dak Prescott Reveals Cowboys Locker Room 'Promise'

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott understands why he is one of the most scrutinized players in football. ... and part of it is ... "The Drought.''

Whether it is found on social media, national television, or the office water cooler, the banter around the Dallas Cowboys has remained the same for quite some time. America’s Team has not made the conference game since the Clinton administration.

No one knows that more than the Cowboys themselves. The pressure is mounting, but quarterback Dak Prescott is not too worried about the outside noise.

“At the end of the day, the pressure is what you put on yourself,” said Prescott. “I think … our standard is win. It’s as simple as that. We hold ourselves to a high standard and high expectations.”

The 15 interceptions Prescott threw last year will draw the headlines, but there’s little argument that he is at least in the conversation for best quarterback in the NFC. That, combined with a defense that led the league in turnovers last season, has contributed to the sky-high expectations that surround this team.

“Nobody wants to end this drought more than the guys in this locker room,” he asserted. “I can promise you that.”

How "accepted'' is it that for all of Dallas' promise at different times over the last quarter-century? The fact that Dak calls it "this drought'' speaks volumes. It's ... a thing.

Prescott’s impact continues to be apparent, even if Cowboys fans won’t see him in action until the Week 1 contest against the New York Giants. It will be his first season with head coach Mike McCarthy calling plays in what the fellas like to call the "West Coast Offense.'' Both McCarthy and Prescott have touted the importance of complementary football and balance within the offense.

“For us, it’s about making sure that we know our identity,” Dak said. “We believe in our identity as a team.”

The spotlight is perpetually focused on Dallas, but with stars on both sides of the ball, it may shine a little brighter in 2023. Ending the Super Bowl drought is likely the only way to dim the lights, at least for an offseason.
