Cowboys' Dak Prescott vs. Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Randall Cobb Reveals Thoughts on 'Elite' QBs

Cowboys ex Randall Cobb praises Jets QB Aaron Rodgers while also noting, "I was very fortunate to go to Dallas and play with someone who I think is elite in Dak Prescott.''

FRISCO - Does Dak Prescott rank with Aaron Rodgers in terms of NFL success at the quarterback position? Phrasing the question that way is actually unfair to both guys involved; Rodgers, the former Green Bay Packers star now with the Jets, is a four-time NFL MVP. Prescott, for all of his relative successes, is coming off a league-worst interception season ...

And despite those other successes, those 15 picks linger.

But despite the Dallas Cowboys QB's limitations, perceived or otherwise, the guys who've played with him do for the most part swear by him. And that's where former Cowboys wide receiver Randall Cobb comes into the picture.

Cobb, 32, has been around the NFL block, with his latest turn coming with him joining the Jets - at the behest of buddy Rodgers, of course - A-Rod's claim that he didn't bring a "wish list'' with him to New York aside. And this week, at his Jets' press conference, the classy Cobb was asked if he ever fully appreciated playing with Rodgers before leaving the Packers to bounce around the NFL a bit.

It is a loaded question that implies that the level of play from his QBs went from mountaintop to deep chasm. And Randall Cobb is too smart - and Cowboys fans hope, too honest - to have fallen for it.

"I would say so,'' Cobb said. "But I was very fortunate to go to Dallas and play with someone who I think is elite in Dak and (then) someone in Deshaun Watson in Houston who I think is a really good player.''

Cobb gave full credit to Rodgers, one of his closest friends and undeniably a legend of the game, for mastering all the "little things'' that can lead to perennial contention, which was largely the case during their 10 seasons together in Green Bay. But it is instructive that in Cobb's opinion that while Prescott isn't obviously the equal of Rodgers, he earns the tag of "elite'' from someone who knows, from the inside of the huddle.
