Cowboys Dak Prescott Wins ‘NFL Man of the Year’ Award: WATCH

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott wins the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year Award - the NFL’s highest honor.

The prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year Award - the NFL’s highest honor - goes to …

Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys' quarterback and team leader.

The award, given at the NFL Honors show, puts Prescott on a plane with Jason Witten, Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach, the other Cowboys winners of this award, given annually to an NFL player for his outstanding community service activities off the field, as well as excellence on the field.

He was asked, “Where does the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award rank among recognitions in his life?”

“That’s easy,” he said. “No. 1.”

Prescott works in the community via his Faith Fight Finish foundation (FFF). The loss of his brother Jace to suicide in 2020, combined with a desire to make an impact on social justice causes, pushed Prescott toward not only to cancer awareness (to honor his late mother) but to also work in suicide prevention and mental health, and work in closing the gap between law enforcement and the community.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was in attendance and was beaming.

"From the very first day, Dak has displayed the heart and soul that reflect and define this award," Jones said. "He is a star on the field, but more importantly, he is a character-driven role model off the field. As an organization, we could not be more proud of the man that Dak is and the special impact and spirit he conveys to others. This is a special recognition, not only for Dak, but for the countless individuals whose life he has impacted."

Through Prescott's commitment to philanthropy this year, major strides have been taken to connect law enforcement with their communities across the country. FFF has developed free training programs for police: an online curriculum created to transform interactions with community members.

FFF's contributions this year also include suicide prevention hotline improvements and donations for cancer research.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was another big winner of the night, earning his second Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player award. Mahomes did not attend the ceremony to accept the award, as he and the underdog Chiefs prepare for Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
