FRISCO - Deion Sanders is no longer coaching at Jackson State, but the Dallas Cowboys legend continues to stump for the talent at HBCU schools - and he’s now expressing displeasure at the NFL Draft largely ignoring HBCU talent.

“I’m ashamed of the 31 other NFL teams that couldn’t find draft value in ALL of the talented HBCU players,” Sanders tweeted as part of his congratulations to Isaiah Bolden, who was the only HBCU player selected in the 2023 NFL Draft this weekend.

Sanders is the former Jackson State football head coach, where he oversaw Bolden before “Coach Prime” made his move up this year to the University of Colorado.

Bolden, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound Florida native, led both FBS and FCS Division I football in average kick return yards at 36.9 per attempt, and he also tied for FCS lead with two kick return touchdowns.

Bolden, the 2021 All-American kick returner, transferred to Jackson State from Florida State before the 2021 season after being recruited by Sanders, who during his long NFL career - including his time in the 1990s with the Super Bowl Cowboys - established himself as a Hall of Famer.

Bolden was picked 245th overall by the New England Patriots during the seventh round. Sanders is arguing that Jackson State alone has at least three other prospects who merited being drafted.

Last year a total of four players from HBCU programs were taken in the NFL Draft.
