Cowboys Rank: No. 1 Sports Franchise - $1 Billion Profit in 3 Years!

The Dallas Cowboys remain the most profitable pro sports franchise, per a recent ranking from Forbes … and their competition is not close to giving them a run for their money.

As legendary pro wrestler Ric Flair would say: “To be the man, ya gotta beat the man.”

When it comes to financial bankability, the Dallas Cowboys are apparently still “the man” … by a wide margin.

The Cowboys currently sit atop Forbes’ list of the world’s most profitable sports teams, per their recent study. In addition to evaluating the NFL, the media group also analyzed the financial data for the MLB, NBA and NHL, as well as professional soccer teams from around the globe. Forbes' data ends with the 2021 season for football, while all other leagues' data is through 2022.

“The Dallas Cowboys head the list,” Forbes reported. “The only sports team on the planet worth $8 billion, pocketed $1.17 billion in operating income the past three years.”

The Cowboys' operating income — defined by Forbes as earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization — far exceeded that of any other professional sports team, and the only one to exceed the $1 billion mark. In fact, Dallas eclipsed the second-place New England Patriots ($623 million) by more than $500 million.

The Cowboys place at the peak of the sports world’s financial empire is hardly surprising. The franchise has been ranked either at, or near the top since team owner Jerry Jones purchased the team for a then-record $140 million. While the Cowboys have failed to capture Lombardi silver since their victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX, Dallas has remained a consistent playoff contender, while maintaining one of the most loyal and passionate fanbases in the NFL. Jones has also helped to broker, or even orchestrate, some of the most savvy marketing strategies in the pro sports landscape, while cultivating a strong relationship with the media.

In 2023, the Cowboys are hoping that the addition of wide receiver Brandin Cooks to a potent offense — already led by quarterback Dak Prescott and alpha wideout CeeDee Lamb — along with an elite defense anchored by two-time All Pro Micah Parsons will add a Super Bowl title, as well as even more profit, to their resume at the conclusion of the upcoming season.
