Cowboys 'Good Fit For Me! - Florida State RB Trey Benson at Scouting Combine

The Dallas Cowboys running back situation is uncertain and with the thought that the franchise will draft Tony Pollard's replacement, Florida State's Trey Benson says it would be a good fit to land at The Star.

The Dallas Cowboys have several needs to sort out as we head towards the NFL Draft, with one of them being at running back.

With Tony Pollard expected to sign elsewhere as he enters free agency, and the Cowboys giving the feeling that they will draft a back, things will be a little different behind Dak Prescott next season.

The Cowboys have held formal meetings with several running backs which includes Florida State's Trey Benson. When asked about his talk with Dallas, Benson thinks it could be a good match.

"I loved the meeting, learn about you know blocking schemes stuff," Benson said at the Scouting Combine. "I feel like the Cowboys, they got the same scheme as Florida State so it'll be a good fit for me.”

In his two seasons with Florida State, Benson was a solid source of production for the offense as he totaled 1,896 yards and 23 rushing touchdowns. He was also used as a pass catcher, something that Mike McCarthy likes to do as well as he hauled in 33 receptions for 371 yards and a touchdown in two seasons.

Benson

Last year for Florida State, Benson was hardly a bell cow back, as just four times he had 14 or more carries. Despite that, Trey still averaged 5.8 yards a carry which is nothing to turn your nose up at.

But if you think that despite his physical and robust nature he is happy with small gains, you would be wrong.

“When I get the ball I'm thinking about scoring every time," Benson said. "The first couple yards good, two-yard gain, three-yard gain, but eventually I'm going bust a 50-yarder.”

So Benson can be a physical workhorse for the Cowboys, but he will need a partner to share the load with.

With Dallas entering a highly pressurized season, Prescott could have a physical back who can eat up the clock and set up the play-action game that the Cowboys love to use in their West Coast Offense.

Benson says it would be a good fit to land in Dallas, time will tell if he gets his wish.
