Confident Cowboys: Jerry Jones Reveals Optimism on Mike McCarthy, Dak Prescott Contract

In the midst of a hot streak that has the Dallas Cowboys as the talk of the NFL, Jerry Jones reveals confidence in both coach Mike McCarthy and the signing of quarterback Dak Prescott to a new contract.

For a guy who started the season on the hot seat, these days Mike McCarthy has ascended to a high throne.

The Dallas Cowboys coach is credited with designing and calling plays for the hottest offense in the NFL. His team is 10-3, on a five-game winning streak and - coming off last Sunday night's blowout of the rival Philadelphia Eagles - leading the NFC East.

Oh, and he's apparently a super hero that can do it all while enduring an emergency appendectomy.

"To stand on that sideline for four hours during a game with that much on the line ... there's a lot of stress and physical pain involved," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said of McCarthy Tuesday morning. "It just shows the team and all of us how much this all means to him."

Coming off consecutive 12-win regular seasons that ended with disappointing playoff losses to the San Francisco 49ers, McCarthy's job was considered in limbo back in training camp. But after parting ways with Kellen Moore and tweaking Dallas' offense with his quicker "Texas Coast" flair, he now has the Cowboys as the NFL's highest-scoring offense and hottest team entering the stretch run.

"He's the busiest man in Dallas, Texas," Jones said on his weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan. "If you're gonna call 'em, you gotta install 'em. He's not only our coach but also our offensive play-caller. That makes for some cumbersome, long weeks. But he's done an outstanding job.

"I don't know when we've played better against a quality opponent since Mike's been here than we did against the Eagles."

While happy with his coach, Jones also expressed confidence in signing quarterback and MVP candidate Dak Prescott to a contract extension.

"Don’t pay any attention to discussion. It’s meaningless," Jones said of rampant rumors about Dak's contract. "The only thing that is factual here is what I decide and what we decide as a team and what Dak decides. We know exactly where we are on the contract. The timing on it remains to be seen.”
