BREAKING - Jerry Jones Reveals Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor Induction For Jimmy Johnson

After a long, frustrating wait, Jerry Jones finally announces detailed plans for former coach Jimmy Johnson to be inducted as the 24th member of the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor.

Just days before Thanksgiving, Dallas Cowboys fans and Jimmy Johnson finally have a reason to be grateful as owner Jerry Jones announced Sunday morning that the two-time Super Bowl winning coach will be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor.

Appearing on Fox's NFL Sunday pregame show, Jones revealed that Johnson will go into the Cowboys' hallowed shrine on “Dec. 30, 1923!” (Meaning 2023) … as the two men convened …Johnson is in Charlotte, where the Cowboys are taking on the Panthers.

"How ‘bout them Cowboys!” Jimmy blurted out as the two proclaimed themselves “friends.”

The announcement ended years of frustration for fans and bewilderment for Johnson. In 2021 at the coach's Hall-of-Fame enshrinement in Canton, Jones revealed on live television that Johnson would be inducted. Retorted Johnson on the set, "While I'm still alive?!"

But the joke became a sore point - even with former players such as Troy Aikman - as Jones not only delayed Johnson's induction but also allowed in players such as DeMarcus Ware in front of him. Jones announced the plans for Ware in August.

"Ware,'' Jones said, "is a player. Jimmy is not. I wanted to put a player in.”

The postponement prompted barbs between Jones and Johnson, who led the Cowboys to consecutive Super Bowls in 1992-93 and laid the foundation for the championship team of 1995 that was ultimately coached by Barry Switzer.

In October the two men shared a lengthy pregame chat in Los Angeles before the Cowboys game against the Chargers, fueling speculation that they chatted about the Ring-of-Honor kerfuffle.

"We visited about (the Ring of Honor)," Jones admitted afterward. "We also, as people who have known each other a long time, we got a lot to needle each other about. And it’s fun.”

Johnson will become the 24th member of the Ring of Honor, joining Tom Landry as the only head coaches.
