FRISCO - I have a slogan when it comes to the impatience of fans and the media when it comes to the development of a franchise, a draft, a season, a game and a player.

"Let the cake bake!'' I often preach. ... the concept being that knee-jerk responses in the moment are generally a waste of energy.

I've also said for years that as a result of Dallas winning all those Super Bowls (all those years ago) that Cowboys fans are "spoiled'' and "think Lombardi trophies are your birthright'' - a twin take that has won me no favors around here, though I stand by it now more than ever.

Meanwhile, I also agree with the recent movement that argues that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is judged "unfairly'' because of the high-profile team that employs him.

But ... we've now got Keyshawn Johnson preaching "patience'' to Cowboys Nation ... and his word badly miss the mark.

Said Keyshawn on FSI: "This is a long haul. You want microwave. That's what's wrong with y'all. Y'all want microwave. You don't wanna cook."

Johnson, himself a former No. 1 overall pick and a former Cowboy, understands well the pressures that come with playing in the NFL, of being somewhat in Dak's shoes, and of playing for "America's Team.''

But if anyone is suggesting that you, as Dallas Cowboys fan, has been "impatient'' with Prescott? That is different than "unfairly criticizing him''; We are in Year 8 of Prescott in Dallas, a time during which he's become the highest-paid player in the history of the sport.

Asking him to be "better than he's been'' is not unreasonable.

And if anyone is suggesting that a quarter-of-a-century wait for Cowboys greatness represents "impatience''? That's wrong, too. A huge portion of the Cowboys fan base (and the media, national and local) views anything short of a Super Bowl as a failure. That's an unreasonable standard that in the end sucks every ounce of satisfaction from, for instance, back-to-back 12-5 seasons - which in this NFL is a hell of an accomplishment.

"Let the cake bake'' while we let this season play out? Yes.

Concede that while the Super Bowl goal should never change, some acceptance of NFL realities also has value? Yes.

Jerry: 'Upper Echelon' Cowboys Aggressive at Trade Deadline?

But chastise Cowboys Nation for wanting Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys to "win a Super Bowl in my lifetime,'' as I've had countless fans of "America's Team'' say to me over the decades? No. In that regard, you as a Cowboys fan are not "impatient'' or "spoiled''; you are, in a good and real way, just like every other fan of every other team ... and the critics of the Cowboys fan base ought to recognize that.
