Cowboys Draft: DFW Reunion? Dallas Mocks SMU WR as Jalen Tolbert Re-Do

The Dallas Cowboys won't be giving up on Jalen Tolbert after a rocky rookie season, but maybe they look to snag a more impactful rookie pass-catcher in the second or third round this April.

Even after a season that saw the Dallas Cowboys get next to nothing out of third-round rookie receiver Jalen Tolbert, a recent three-round mock draft from USA Today has the Cowboys taking another receiver for a second straight year after the opening stages of the draft.

This time, the Cowboys don't have to look far at all for their next young pass-catcher in SMU product Rashee Rice, who is heading to Dallas at No. 58 to be what Tolbert - who had just two catches for 12 yards this season - could not during his rookie year.

In this scenario, the Cowboys would add Rice to a receiving corps that he could make an impact in early on. Dallas' passing attack was dominated by star receiver CeeDee Lamb this past season, but lacked a standout No. 2 option.

It might be stretch to say that Rice would reach these WR2 heights in his first NFL season, but he's certainly shown the star-like qualities that could shine bright in the near future.

This past season at SMU, Rice was one of the best receivers in college football. Among all Division I receivers, he finished with the third-most receiving yards (1,355), the fifth-most catches (96) and tied for the sixth-most receiving touchdowns.

Bringing the speed DFW native to Jerry World would make for a story fit for the NFL Draft, but it's also a move that'd be hard for fans to argue with given the timing of the selection and the skills Rice has already displayed.
