First Place! Dallas Cowboys Throttle Philadelphia Eagles For 'Statement' Win

The Dallas Cowboys are in first place now, having earned their signature win of the season in a 30-13 dismantling of the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.

ARLINGTON - Ever since their tight loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 5, the Dallas Cowboys had Sunday's rematch at home circled on their calendar.

Eager to definitively prove themselves in front of a national audience, the Cowboys took full advantage of the opportunity and smothered their division rivals in a 33-13 victory. ... and a "signature'' win.

The first half was probably the best half of football the Cowboys have played all season, as not only did they score on all four of their possessions, they also held the typically high-powered Eagles offense out of the end zone. Dak Prescott was efficient, Jalen Hurts was not, and it seemed like Dallas would walk to victory.

The second half got off to a rocky start, as Jalen Carter recovered a Prescott fumble and ran it back 42 yards for Philadelphia's lone touchdown of the night. After that, though, the Cowboys settled down again and kept executing their game plan to perfection.

It's not as if the Eagles didn't move the ball, as they amassed 319 total yards on the night. However, the Cowboys were opportunistic and forced three turnovers, all of which shut down promising Eagles drives.

Prescott continued his MVP push by completing 24 of 39 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup both caught touchdowns, and Rico Dowdle added one on the ground.

For Philadelphia, Hurts had a performance to forget as he completed 18 of 27 passes for 197 yards and no touchdowns, with only an additional 30 yards on the ground. It's the first time all season Hurts hasn't found the end zone at all.

With the victory, the Cowboys extend their winning streak at AT&T Stadium to 15 consecutive games. They also move into a tie with the Eagles atop the NFC East at 10-3, as well as a three way tie with them and the San Francisco 49ers for the top seed in the NFC.

For the moment, because Dallas has a 4-1 record in the division (to the Eagles' 3-1), the Cowboys are in first place.

Dallas can't afford to get complacent, though, as next up is a tough road matchup against the Buffalo Bills next Sunday.

Maybe that'll be another "statement'' win. But for now? This will do nicely.
