Cowboys Vs. ‘Hungover’ Eagles Prediction: New Super Bowl Favorite?

The Dallas Cowboys are hoping to chase down the Philadelphia Eagles and win the NFC East in 2023.

Are the Dallas Cowboys flying under the radar when talking about the NFC East race in 2023?

Based on the headlines that the Philadelphia Eagles have generated since their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, they seem to be favored to win the division again. ...

Yet, a recent article from CBS Sports predicts otherwise, as Will Brinson has the Dallas Cowboys taking back the NFC East, effectively robbing their rival the opportunity to repeat as division winners for the first time since 2004 when Philadelphia brought home its fourth-straight division title.

"Philly went from having the easiest schedule in the NFL in 2022 to having the hardest," CBS Sports writes. "I actually want to pick the Giants to win the division and the model giving them nine wins in Brian Daboll's second season gives me good reason to do just that. For now I'm rolling with the Cowboys, who might actually be improved on offense with a little balance from Mike McCarthy's playcalling, something I'm sure I won't regret later."

Okay, well... maybe the Cowboys weren't the first choice to win the East, but if the Eagles don't repeat, you'd have to argue that Dallas is the second-most likely, especially after strengthening this offseason.

Dallas was aggressive, making trades to fill two glaring holes at wide receiver and cornerback, landing Brandin Cooks from the Houston Texans and Stephon Gilmore via the Indianapolis Colts. Additionally, the Cowboys managed to keep many of their key contributors from a year ago while drafting Michigan nose tackle Mazi Smith with their first-round pick to help stop the run, a problem that's plagued them for years.

But what about the other contenders? The Giants did add a big weapon on offense by acquiring tight end Darren Waller in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders while drafting Tennessee's Jalin Hyatt, is that enough to catch the Eagles and Cowboys?

Lastly, the Washington Commanders still have questions, including a big one at quarterback. If second-year signal-caller Sam Howell proves to be a success, then maybe he can keep them in the race. But that doesn't seem likely in an offseason where the biggest news was their sale.

Winning in the regular season hasn't been a problem for the Cowboys, as evidenced by their back-to-back 12-win seasons. Instead, their problem is progressing far enough into late January and early February.
