Cowboys Price to ALSO Trade for DeAndre Hopkins Same As Brandin Cooks Cost?

Surely, the recent splash deals made by the Dallas Cowboys puts them out of the juicy trade conversation for Arizona Cardinals receiver DeAndre Hopkins … at least one would think.

One of them finally happened. Would you like another?

The Dallas Cowboys traded for Houston Texans receiver Brandin Cooks on Sunday, surprisingly giving Jerry Jones and Co. their second big trade of a new league year that started off without much noise on their end.

After countless Instagram jersey swaps from Cowboys fans dreaming of the day when the team would make a big-time trade, acquiring the talent of All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore from the Indianapolis Colts along with Cooks made some wishes come true.

But what if Dallas isn’t done?

Surely, this puts the Cowboys out of the juicy trade conversation for Arizona Cardinals receiver DeAndre Hopkins … at least one would think. But per NFL Network, trade talks surrounding the three-time All-Pro are "ramping up," and we wonder if the Cowboys should at least dip their toes in the water.

While saying a team “can never have too many receivers” (or whatever position you’d like to include) remains true, it comes to a point where it's overkill to spend and fill roster spots on too many players at one position.

But when it comes to adding Hopkins to the equation, go ahead and trade one receiver for another … with a draft pick attached, of course.

The scenario Bleacher Report recently drew up? A second-rounder and Michael Gallup for Hopkins.

But now? Word from a former Patriots exec is that New England might be interested in Hopkins due to a "soft market.''

How soft? Dallas should want to know, right?

What if it's this soft: The Cardinals, predicts @AlbertBreer, will not be able to get their initial asking price of a "second-round pick plus'' and he thinks the price will be nearer what it cost Dallas to get Brandin Cooks.

That was a fifth-round pick and a sixth-round round pick.

Hey, go do it again!

The aforementioned price might've been fair. Gallup, though still a little over a year removed from his ACL tear, is a talented possession receiver with trustworthy hands, highlight-reel potential and underrated speed in the open field. On a Cardinals team that needs to be looking toward the future a bit with quarterback Kyler Murray set to be sidelined to start the season, acquiring a proven 27-year-old in Gallup to pair with Hollywood Brown would give Arizona a dangerous receiving tandem to build around.

As for the Cowboys, they remain in win-now mode, and adding Hopkins to the fold alongside Cooks and CeeDee Lamb would certainly solidify this notion.

OK, realistically ... After already making two big splash trades this offseason, Cowboys fans might not want to get too greedy, as those Hopkins-Dallas jersey edits may have to stay in the drafts until further notice. But just in case?

There is a "soft market'' out there. And there is "Wildcattin Jerry'' Jones over here. And there is a Cooks-sized rumor about D-Hop right in front of them.
