Cowboys Moving on From TE Dalton Schultz? Jerry Jones' 'Hard Answer'

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones may have hinted what the future holds for Dalton Schultz with a pair of rookies set to step up again next season.

The Dallas Cowboys offseason is now in full swing, and with several free agent issues to sort out, the front office will be quite busy.

One such decision is what the franchise does with tight end Dalton Schultz. As Dak Prescott's favorite target over the last few seasons, Schultz has become a staple of the Cowboys' offense.

But that could be about to change...

Speaking from the combine in Indianapolis, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seemed to hint that the performance of other players on offense means that the franchise isn't backed into a corner over Schultz's future.

"Tight end, and of course Dalton, is very important," Jones said. "But it's important to remind everyone that we have other players involved here. I think we're fortunate to have the young players that we had last year really step up."

Hmm ...

So dissecting Jerry's words, he seems to hint that while Schultz was important, he felt it is worth reminding that rookie tight ends in Peyton Hendershot and Jake Ferguson stepped up.

Does this mean it's the end of the line for Schultz in Frisco as Jerry feels Hendershot and Ferguson can take over?

Tagging the tight end for a second consecutive year would see Dallas pay him $13.1 for the season, which seems quite rich considering the other options at the position.

So, will Hendershot and Ferguson be the tight ends for Dak Prescott heading into next season?

"Right now, it's a hard answer to find," Jones said. "I'll make sure that we've assessed that role and where we want to be."

Where Dallas wants it to be is value for money, and with the tight end market expanding, paying Schultz the going rate while having two rookies on the roster who many think can match the former Stanford standout's performances, it feels like a no brainer.

Many think that Schultz's time in Dallas is over, and with Jerry's latest comments, it's hard to envision a situation when he remains for another season.
