Cowboys Trade for Brandin Cooks, So No Room for DeAndre Hopkins Signing?

New Dallas Cowboy Brandin Cooks is getting settled in Frisco and is coming to grips with Mike McCarthy's style of offense.

New Dallas Cowboys receiver Brandin Cooks is settling into life in Frisco as OTA's get underway. With much of the offseason headlines being dominated around Dallas adding another receiver, Cooks has hit the ground running at The Star.

While it is still early in his stint with the Cowboys, Cooks gave an insight into what he could bring to coach Mike McCarthy's offense next season.

"I just want to continue to bring that explosive play, being dynamic, something that they [Dallas] already got; I just want to build on that," Cooks said. "It's special when you're on a train that is always moving at a fast pace and has been doing great. I want to come here to make plays, be a part of the guys and continue to have fun."

Fast-paced, alright. The Cowboys under Kellen Moore were one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, but now with McCarthy taking over the play-calling duties, many feel the offense will look vastly different from the one a year ago.

But what about that "other receiver''? There is naturally talk that connects Dallas with DeAndre Hopkins now that Arizona has cut the All-Pro. Is there room for CeeDee Lamb and Cooks and Michael Gallup and more? (Our Mike Fisher makes the case in the affirmative in the video below.)

As for receivers on the move, nobody knows more about that than Cooks. Having been around the league since 2014 and being traded four times, Cooks has seen his fair share of different philosophies, and when it comes to what "Big Mike" wants, Cooks already understands what's expected from him.

"I'm still learning, but McCarthy has been part of explosive offenses everywhere he's been," Cooks said. "That's what you feel, he wants to be explosive, dynamic from all his players, and that's what I'm still learning."

While Cooks has been with four different teams throughout his NFL career, most notably with the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots, but being a Cowboy is different. ... which applies to guys who aren't here (Hopkins) and guys who are, like Cooks.

The spotlight is a little brighter, and the pressure is a little more intense, and Cooks had a simple response when asked about so many media members being present for "only" OTAs.

"That's the Dallas Cowboys for you," Cooks said with a smile.

He's fitting in well.
