Cowboys Trade for Ravens TE Mark Andrews? 'Locked On' Proposes Blockbuster

Nah, Dallas isn't getting Mark Andrews. But the concept of the Cowboys adding that caliber of offensive weapon is a must - and we're prepared to remind Jerry and Stephen Jones that they've both pledged to do exactly that.

FRISCO - It's been said by the Dallas Cowboys themselves that in preparation for 2023 they are looking to add an "offensive play-maker with juice.''

That has allowed us to do some actual reporting on possibilities like a signing of Odell Beckham Jr. or a trade for DeAndre Hopkins.

On another level, it's allowed us to "gossip and guess'' at "impossible ideas'' like Bills receiver Stefon Diggs and ... Ravens tight end Mark Andrews?!

Our pals at “Locked on Cowboys,” Marcus Mosher and Landon McCool, recently tossed out that intriguing concept, Mosher proposing the idea of the Cowboys trading a first-round pick to the Ravens in exchange for Andrews.

“There are some tight ends out there that I won’t be surprised are available via trade. ... The one that comes to mind for me is Mark Andrews for the Ravens,” Mosher said on “Locked on Cowboys.” “Only (27) years old. Only has $7 million guaranteed left on his contract.

"The Ravens do need to free up some space if they plan on tagging Lamar Jackson. What about a first-round pick for Mark Andrews?”

Is this unlikely? Yes. But is it crazy? Not really, from a Dallas perspective. Dalton Schultz is likely leaving in free agency (maybe to become the NFL's highest-paid tight end?) and Andrews' base salaries (of about $7 million APY) are not problematic. And the former Oklahoma star is a spectacular weapon.

Now, how about from a Baltimore perspective? Andrews is the top Ravens offensive weapon; wouldn't Lamar Jackson, already embroiled in a controversial contract dispute, be more unhappy if he's allowed to leave? In other words, the Ravens need to add Lamar helpers (like Odell Beckham Jr.?) ... not swap one out in exchange for keeping him.

Andrews, a three-time Pro Bowler, would be a massive "get.'' But there is an overwhelming buzz that has the Cowboys selecting a tight end in the first round at No. 26 - a move that impacts the cap at a fraction of how the money for Andrews or Schultz does.

We're fans of this specific "impossible idea,'' but more, we're fans of the brainstorming exercise in general. We'll say that while Dallas isn't getting Mark Andrews, the concept of adding that caliber of offensive weapon is a must - and we're prepared to remind Jerry and Stephen Jones that they've both pledged to do exactly that.
