The new NFL league year begins on March 13 and the Dallas Cowboys have been linked to a number of free-agent targets and even some trade possibilities as well.

One such trade proposal involves adding depth at wide receiver.

The Cowboys have wideout CeeDee Lamb under contract for one more season (pending his coming extension) and Michael Gallup for two. Brandin Cooks came in via trade last offseason and Dallas added two void years through 2026 to free up cap space.

The proposed trade by SB Nation involves disgruntled Las Vegas Raiders wideout Hunter Renfrow, who has seemingly fallen out of favor with his team - meaning he might come on a bargain trade deal.

“Renfrow hit career-lows in all significant statistics after playing only 35% of the offensive snaps as a result of falling out of favor with the Raiders’ coaching staff,” SB Nation wrote on February 17. “Even after Antonio Pierce took over as interim coach, nothing changed for Renfrow.

"Renfrow carries a $13.7M salary for next season, but you’d have to assume the Raiders would be happy to absorb some of that price to foster a trade. The Cowboys and the Raiders have frequently worked out deals before, and the two sides agreeing wouldn’t be a surprise.”

After a successful college career with the Clemson Tigers, Renfrow was selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. His best season was 2021 when he caught 103 balls for 1,038 yards and nine scores. Last season, his productivity fell to 25 catches for 255 yards and no touchdowns after he played in just 35 percent of the Raiders' offensive snaps.

Dallas needs a receiver who can complement Lamb, and after the inconsistency aside from Lamb last season, it's apparent to some they don't yet have one. Could Renfrow be that guy? If he has fallen out of favor in Las Vegas, the Cowboys might be able to get him for less.

In June of 2022, the former Clemson product signed a two-year, $32 million extension with the Raiders, meaning he has one year left with a $13.681 million cap hit in 2024. If the Cowboys can get the Raiders to pick some of that up - - which routinely happens when a team wants to dump a player who is no longer wanted - it might be a bargain-basement deal for Dallas.

But … Is Renfrow superior to Brandin Cooks? No. Would he be a progress-stopper to Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks? Maybe, So “bargain” is the keyword here,
