Cowboys Trevon Diggs' Lofty Goal: 'I Want to be Perfect!'

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is fresh off signing a big new deal, but as he begins training camp, he isn't about to let his incredibly high standards drop.

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs worked his backside off after getting drafted and has developed into one of the better corners in the league. As such, team owner Jerry Jones wrote that big check and secured Diggs' services for the foreseeable future.

With training camp now underway in Oxnard, Diggs is getting back into the groove, but despite now signing a long-term deal, the cornerback isn't about to let his standards slip ... in fact, he wants to become even better.

"My main goal is to stay consistent, to stay building on my career, to build a great resume so that I'll go down as one of the best DBs to play the game," Diggs said. "I just want to be flawless, all the way around. I want to have no flaws in my game. I want to be perfect."

That is certainly a lofty goal that Diggs is trying to reach, but one could argue, based on his production thus far, as he is tied with J.C. Jackson for the most interceptions since 2020 (Diggs' rookie season), he is capable of getting there.

Entering the final year of his rookie contract, not having his future decided could have had negative effects on Diggs as he begins training camp; however, even if a deal wasn't forthcoming, it would not have changed how he would approach his offseason.

"It's a lot of weight off of your shoulders — regardless of if it was done in camp or not in camp, I was still gonna go about my work the same way," Diggs said.

With his future now secured, Diggs can go about his business as Dallas gears up for the new season, but as we have seen in the past, when players get a shiny new deal, their play sometimes sufferers.

But Diggs assured us that he won't be another cautionary tale.

"I feel like money isn't everything because, at the end of the day, you still have to go out there and perform," he said. "They give contracts to guys all the time, and some guys don't perform after."

Despite being relatively young in NFL terms, Diggs certainly has the right mindset to become "perfect," as he described it, and with a former Defensive Player of the Year teammate in Stephon Gilmore to learn from, perhaps Diggs is even more focused on his craft now that his future is finally sorted.
