FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys have a rich history of tradition and winning. But some dedicated fans under the age of 30 may not have a personal memory of championships.

Dallas hasn't won a Super Bowl or appeared in an NFC Championship game since the 1995 season. And their track record of winning anything since then isn't much more memorable.

One reason for the organization's success in the 90s was due to the talent and efforts of former quarterback and current ESPN broadcaster Troy Aikman. And what does Aikman think about today's Cowboys? He's frequently expressed great admiration for Dak Prescott. Our Mike Fisher expresses some surprise at Aikman recently telling him that the ol' QB - who in his post-playing career has conflicted often with Dallas ownership - "loves'' Jerry Jones. And the organization's recent work as a whole?

“The organization has done a fantastic job. I think the coaches have done a great job. The players. All of it. They have won a lot of games,” Aikman told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The Cowboys have certainly had success since 1995 with 14 winning seasons in those 27 years. But they've posted just eight division titles in that time and can boast only five playoff wins.

“The problem for them, and they don’t need me to tell them this, they just have not played their best football when the games have mattered the most,” Aikman said.

Aikman gave a good explanation for the lack of playoff success, but he doesn't really give a good "reason" for it. And while CowboysSI.com makes a good stab at it here, we're not really sure anyone can. Is it coaching? Dallas has rolled through six head coaching changes since the 1995 season. Is it front office leadership? That's been the constant here, but it's hard to fault a front office that's compiled 244 wins since 1995.

It might just be one of life's mysteries, but Cowboys fans - whether or not they join Troy in "loving'' the owner and the QB - are ready for that mystery to be solved and to reset the clock on a Dallas Super Bowl win in 2023.

Because if Troy Aikman can't explain it, no one can.
