DeAndre Hopkins 'Telling Everybody He Wants to Sign with Cowboys'?

DeAndre Hopkins' wish? According to NFL Network reporter Jane Slater, the All-Pro receiver on the trade block sounds interested in the Dallas Cowboys.

FRISCO - DeAndre Hopkins cannot, of course, just "sign with the Dallas Cowboys.'' The Arizona Cardinals wide receiver has two years remaining on his contract, as as much as his present team seems obviously open to moving on from him, that move would have to come in the form of a "trade,'' not a "signing.''

But there are “semantics” and there is “sentiment.”

And somebody inside The Star is now answering a key question on Hopkins … from a Cowboys viewpoint.

According to NFL Network reporter Jane Slater - smartly framing a comment from a team source in a light-hearted and almost gossipy manner - Hopkins sounds interested in Dallas.

Says who? Says Dallas.

"This is my evening tweet covering my bases,” Slater wrote on Wednesday. “I’ve asked … anything to the DHop rumors?’

“A source (replied), ‘No DHop talk from us. Guess he’s telling everybody he wants to be a Cowboy.”

So technically, this isn’t Hopkins saying that. It’s the Cowboys - who are in the market for a wideout as they continue to negotiate with Odell Beckham Jr. - essentially saying that they hear (media social media) saying it.

And that much is true.

Recently Hopkins spend a couple of weekends in Dallas hanging out (and being recruited by) Cowboys ex Dez Bryant.

“Talk to me!” Hopkins said playfully in a Dez video, a comment directed at the city of Dallas ... or something like that.

Hopkins this week responded to a tweet from Cowboys star linebacker Micah Parsons, saying "It's about time" (for Hopkins to join the Cowboys) with the receiver posting the “shrug” emoji in return.

How much does this signify movement on a D-Hop trade? How much does it really mean he wants to land with the Cowboys? And given that he no longer has trade veto power in his contract, why do the Cardinals care what he wants?

The Cowboys source’s gossipy remark doesn’t clear up any of that. But at least now folks inside The Star can quit pretending they’re “unaware” of the “D-Hop to Dallas” concept.
