Deion Sanders as NFL Coach? Dallas Cowboys' Michael Irvin Reveals Prediction
FRISCO - How do we know that Deion Sanders has no interest in jumping from college football into coaching in the NFL? Well, because Deion himself told us so.
But if we need the idea reinforced? Who better to testify than one of Sanders' closest pals, former Dallas Cowboys teammate Michael Irvin?
“Deion Sanders is about these kids," Irvin said while appearing on Fox Sports One's "Undisputed.'' "It’s hard for me to believe he wants to move on. He loves where he is right now."
The word "kids'' might be the key one here, as it ties to our exclusive interview with Sanders not too long ago when he told CowboysSI.com that he was "too old-fashioned'' to deal with pro athletes, suggesting he prefers to mentor college-age student-athletes.
Sanders has now said this to other outlets in other interviews ... but that hasn't ended the speculation. And, we suppose, not even getting the info from NFL Network analyst and Deion's fellow Hall of Fame honoree Irvin will stem that tide.
Colorado got off to a 3-0 start, including a defeat of powerhouse TCU in the season opener, before losing in a blowout at Oregon on Saturday night ... and outcome that caused Sanders to "warn'' his critics that CU won't be that down again.
That may or may not be true for the Buffaloes, who next week play host to No. 5 USC. But Sanders has changed the culture in Boulder and "loves those kids.'' ... and we continue to find it ironic that some of the same people who profess to have "faith'' in what Deion is building at CU are at the same time skeptical when he - or people like Michael Irvin - explain his plans.
