Micah Parsons 'Creativity': What's Cowboys Next Level of 'Elite'?

Cowboys star Micah Parsons has been a game-wrecker since arriving in the league, but head coach Mike McCarthy has detailed the next step the "Lion-backer" can take to elevate his game even further.

Do "Micah Parsons'' and "improvement'' belong in the same sentence? After all, the Dallas Cowboys "pass-rushing linebacker" has been a gigantic source of production during his two seasons with "America's Team,'' so how much better can he get?

But, yes ... there could be more to come from him.

After back-to-back seasons of heralded production that has seen him total 26.5 sacks in just 33 games, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has given insight into how Micah can take his game to the next level ... and it starts with making him less predictable on the line of scrimmage.

“I think Micah is clearly at the stage of his career — I think individually he will always be extremely impactful," McCarthy said. "That’s why it’s important for us to stay focused on creating as many of those opportunities for him. I think that’s the whole conversation of where he’s going to line up. From an offensive perspective when you line up a premier player up in the same spot, it’s easier to apply help there.

"I think (coordinator) Dan (Quinn) and his staff have done a great job of that. The next measure of Micah being an elite player is how much he affects the game and the opportunities he creates for others. I think that’s the level were impact players not only affect the game with their individual production, but it’s really always being aware of where he is will definitely create opportunities for other guys.”

Added Micah himself on the subject of creativity in 2023: “We’re doing a lot of special things. I don’t want to give a lot away right now, but it’s going to be a really cool year. I’m probably going to play like eight positions this year!''

With so many offensive game plans aimed at trying to stop Parsons, having him line up anywhere along the defensive line will then free up the likes of DeMarcus Lawrence, Sam Williams, Dante Fowler, Dorance Armstrong, Osa Odighizuwa, and even draftee Mazi Smith to make plays.

The defense goes as Micah goes and with an emphasis more on the collective, which even Parsons himself admitted that he is "off the sack wave" and is looking to be more impactful during games.

That self-awareness was preached last season across the board inside The Star, and if Micah has another level to get to, then that doesn't bode well for a league that already has enough trouble trying to stop him.
