Rookie Tony Pollard gets his wish: A Cowboys jersey number in the 20's

FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Tony Pollard told me back in April that he would like a new jersey number. He's now officially a member of the team, officially in the game plan for Week 1 against the Giants, and officially the owner of a new number.
Right after the NFL Draft, the electric Pollard wanted a number other than the No. 36 he was handed.
"It's no big deal, they just gave it to me,'' Pollard told me. "But I'd prefer, like, No. 23.''
Of course, at the time what the Cowboys also handed the fourth-round pick from Memphis a new four-year contract. So taking No. 36 was secondary.
But now? As Dallas continues to plan on Ezekiel Elliott being the go-to guy for 2019 with Pollard as his backup and cohort, the kid's been issued a new number.
And No. 20 fits.
"I just want to be able to be a playmaker in all areas of the field,'' said Pollard, who grew up with Reggie Bush as his favorite player and who doesn't shy from hoping he can be in Dallas what Alvin Kamara is in New Orleans.
We shall see about what Pollard is. But we now know what Pollard looks like: A kid who had earned a jersey number in the 20's.
