Would Cowboys Add Zack Martin's Brother To O-Line?

Sorry, but the Cowboys - who believe in Tyler Biadasz - have no intention at this time to get "cute.''

FRISCO - Brothers Zack Martin and Nick Martin on the same Dallas Cowboys team? That would be "cute.''

The Cowboys have no intention at this time to get "cute.''

Nick, who plays center, has been released by the Houston Texans, in the view of some a "cap casualty.'' But NFL people recognize another reason: He didn't play very well.

Nick's availability, combined with the excellence of his big brother Zack as a future Hall-of-Famer for the Cowboys, has led to speculation about them teaming up in Dallas, as they once did at Notre Dame.

But sources tell CowboysSI.com that at this time, a potential "family reunion'' in Dallas is not in the offing.

Zack was a first-round guard for Dallas before Nick became a second-round pick of the Texans in 2016. Ex Houston boss Bill O'Brien, admiring Nick's character, later gave him a three-year contract that the new administration has trashed. Nick was a full-time starter ...

But in the view of the Cowboys, not only is Nick Martin not Zack (a lofty plateau and an unfair comparison, frankly), he's also not a match for Tyler Biadasz, who Dallas believes performed well as a 2020 rookie. (And with all due respect to PFF and their ilk, the inside-The-Star grading of players is infinitely more valuable to us.)

That same reasoning is why we don't understand stories that connect Packers All-Pro center Corey Linsley to Dallas.

"The Wisconsin kid (Biadasz) is our center,'' a source tells CowboysSI.com.

Nick doesn't turn 28 until April, and his positive qualities will make him attractive to somebody. But Dallas has a handful of kids who it believes either have or will accomplish more, from left guard starter Connor Williams to prospect Connor McGovern. And vet Joe Looney, a free agent, is in play to possibly return as well. Oh, and another O-lineman might fall to Dallas in the early rounds of the upcoming NFL Draft.

Maybe free agency or injuries change things and a need arises. But  Nick Martin is not presently in Dallas' plans ... as "cute'' a story as it would be.
