Cowboys choose 2019 team captains, including Jaylon Smith & DeMarcus Lawrence

FRISCO - Always an interesting exercise is the Dallas Cowboys selections of teammates to serve as their team captains ... and the 2019 choices are no exception.
The list of leaders:
Guard Zack Martin
Quarterback Dak Prescott
Defensive end Demarcus Lawrence
Linebacker Jaylon Smith
Safety Jeff Heath
Punter Chris Jones
One of the most notable things about the choices? The players who didn’t make the cut. It speaks to the quality of leadership and character on this roster, I think, that people like Sean Lee, Tyrone Crawford, Travis Frederick, Byron Jones and maybe most of all, Jason Witten, don’t make the cut.
I wonder if Witten might’ve volunteered himself off the list of candidates, given his The un-retired icon’s stated desire to be tested now as “just one of the guys.”
Dak is a repeat Captain from a year ago and a natural, of course. Meanwhile, the offense, defense and special teams are all equally represented here. But the ascension of Jaylon Smith is especially notable as he’s the first guy I’ve ever heard come out and announce, as Jaylon did at his recent new-contract press conference, that he was destined to be a captain.
He was right. And in their own ways, the other five guys feel right as well.
