Dallas Cowboys Coach on 'Incredibly Selfless' Locker Room: 'That's Who We Are!'

In this story:
There's no "I'' in "team,'' especially the way the Dallas Cowboys offense spells the word.
After the 33-13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles that saw a host of players get their share of credit, a team-first attitude is being talked about as a key to what has propelled them to a 10-3 record.
With the likes of CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks, Michael Gallup, KaVontae Turpin, Tony Pollard, Jalen Tolbert, Rico Dowdle, and Jake Ferguson, there is a lot of talent that quarterback Dak Prescott has to keep happy - and the hard part is there is only one ball. But ...
“This group is incredibly selfless they really are, and that's not in every locker room around the league, and I think that's part of why we are who we are,” offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said in evaluating the "Sunday Night Football'' win. “You talk about a professional, cool group of guys to work with every day.
"I would be selling them short if I didn't talk about how much we appreciate their selflessness not just during the game but during the week as well.”
Lamb has this year given voice to wanting to get fed. But nobody in the building has ever called him a "diva.'' Meanwhile, another player who exemplifies that team-first attitude is Gallup.
Eight times this season, Gallup has had just two or fewer receptions in a game as, at times, he has been a bystander on offense - but not once has he thrown a diva tantrum.
He has been going about his business in practice and has worked hard on his craft so he is ready when his moment arrives - and it did against the Eagles. Gallup caught three passes for 48 yards and a touchdown, which included a 39-yard reception late in the fourth quarter, which helped confirm the win.
So, while some sections of Cowboys Nation have wanted Gallup off the team, he is working in the shadows and doing his part for the team - again, that "selfless" attitude.
“He's been amazing ... I joked last week a little bit about he said he deserved a plaque for all of his crack blocks,” Schottenheimer said with a smile. “These guys, they all want the ball, they all do, and that's what makes them awesome. But MG has not checked up at all, he's working hard in practice, which we love.
“He's playing at a really high level, and it was cool to see him get some good numbers.”
With the Cowboys' offense flying as they gear up for Buffalo, being selfless is what has gotten this group under head coach Mike McCarthy and Schottenheimer playing so well.
No one cares who gets the targets or who gets the touchdowns, and that is perhaps what might propel this team to a deep playoff run.
Cowboys' Michael Gallup Reacts to Lack of Targets
As for Gallup, fans might not see his value on offense as others get more snaps and targets, but the Cowboys team and their coaches know what he brings to the table - a true, team-first attitude. ... Which, going by Schottenheimer's comments, appeals to the team at least as much getting a ton of catches.
