FRISCO - For present Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons, it would be a chance to play on offense. For former Dallas Cowboys star Dez Bryant, it would be a chance to play ... again, in whatever capacity.

And that capacity is? The pursuit of a gold medal in the Olympics in 2028, with both guys stating they plan to participate in flag football when it becomes an official Olympic sport five years from now.

For Dez, the standout wide receiver, it really does seem a no-brainer fit; he'll be 39, but moving to flag football seems sort of a natural progression.

I’m looking forward to playing in the Olympics 2028 flag football,'' Dez tweeted

But is it also a fit for Parsons? We can't tell if he's goofing around when he makes his case.

“I’m going on the U.S. Team,” Parsons said. “I’m gonna go win an Olympic gold medal because I can’t do it in track and I can’t do it anything else but I know I can play some flag football. I think I might be playing offense for the guys."

Sure, maybe. Except ... Parsons will be 29 and in the theoretical prime of an NFL career while being paid a monster contract - presumably by the Cowboys - who might not be in favor of "goofing around'' at the Olympics.

But if Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would somehow approve it - and on second thought, the Dallas Cowboys winning Olympic gold might be the last great untapped marketing opportunity for "America's Team'' - Parsons is ready to assemble a squad.

“Me and Tyreek [Hill] gonna start it off and it’s just gonna be like that,” Parsons added. “All of our guys should be on that team. We need Justin Jefferson out there, we need Ja’Marr Chase, CeeDee Lamb. … We should run through everybody just like we do in wrestling and everything else.”

Retired tight end Rob Gronkowski is another big name who has pushed for the idea of becoming a flag football star, and it's true: The United States would obviously have the advantage if flag football in the Olympics was about an All-Star American team taking on other countries that, you know, don't really play football. Surely that is not the IOC's plan ... even though it might be Micah and Dez' plan.
