The NFC East teams continued to add pieces to their rosters on Friday night. Each team made two picks. Here's a look at who did what.

New York Giants

  • Round 2, Pick 57 - C John Michael Schmitz (Minnesota)
  • Round 3, Pick 73 - WR Jalin Hyatt (Tennessee)
  • Trade: Giants sent the 89th and 128th overall picks to the Rams for the 73rd pick (Hyatt).

The Giants continue to crush the draft, filling two more needs. They added center John Michael Schmitz and receiver Jalin Hyatt, who will be two immediate contributors on offense.

Schmitz was widely regarded as the best center in the draft. He fell out of the first round and continued to side until the Giants picked him at 57. Schmitz fills a huge need and is projected as their center of the future. He brings toughness and a high football IQ, which will be useful when making calls in a complicated Giants offense.

Hyatt brings speed and good size to a team that needs it. He had 15 touchdowns and over 1,200 yards last season. He’s a deep threat but can work out of any position, including the slot. His route running still needs work, but the Giants came away with a great value pick with Hyatt.

Philadelphia Eagles

  • Round 3, Pick 65 - Ol Tyler Steen (Alabama)
  • Round 3, Pick 66 - S Sydney Brown (Illinois)
  • Trade: Eagles sent the 62nd pick to Houston for the 65th, 188th, and 230th picks.

The Eagles had a great first night and followed it up with a solid Day 2. They continued to work the phones and added two more picks in the process. They traded down and grabbed two solid players in Tyler Steen and Sydney Brown, with their back-to-back picks.

Steen’s versatility is likely what attracted the Eagles to select him. He has experience at both guard and tackle. The Eagles are known for having a strong offensive line. Still, after losing starting guard Isaac Seumalo in free agency, Steen could fill that spot until he’s ready to possibly take over for Lane Johnson at tackle once he retires.

Brown fills a need after the Eagles lost both Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and Marcus Epps in free agency. Brown grabbed six interceptions last season and was used all over Illinois’ defense. He can play down in the box and is also effective as a blitzer, and is another solid addition to the Eagles defense.

Dallas Cowboys

  • Round 2, Pick 58 - TE Luke Schoonmaker (Michigan)
  • Round 3, Pick 90 - LB Demarvion Overshown (Texas)

The Cowboys added two solid players on Friday. They took another Michigan product, this time on offense, by selecting tight end Luke Schoonmaker. Their defense also got even stronger, with linebacker Demarvion Overshown added to the mix.

Schoonmaker will fill the void left by Dalton Schultz, who departed in free agency. He had just over 400 yards and three touchdowns last season with the Wolverines. Schoonmaker is a strong blocker and has strong hands. He doesn’t offer much after the catch, but he does separate effectively.

Overshown, a former safety converted to linebacker, is a big hitter who will provide the Cowboys with solid run support. He had 90 tackles, ten tackles for loss, and four sacks last season while being used all over the field. The Longhorn product will stay in-state, and the Cowboys have to be pleased that he was still there at their pick.

Washington Commanders

  • Round 2, Pick 47 - CB Dartavius Martin (Illinois)
  • Round 3, Pick 97 - C Ricky Stromberg (Arkansas)

The Commanders started the night by adding to their defense yet again and bringing in another piece to their offensive line.

Dartavius Martin had three interceptions and 14 passes defensed in 2022. He’s projected to be a nickel corner, and Washington seems to be ecstatic with their secondary transformation.

Many were shocked at this pick, as they felt Martin would’ve been there in later rounds. Nevertheless, they’ve added Emmanuel Forbes and Martin to a secondary that needed work.

Stromberg has experience at guard and center but was mostly a center during his time at Arkansas. Washington’s offensive line has needed help for some time now, and Stromberg will come in to compete with Chase Roullier and Nick Gates. Stromberg is a low-risk, potentially high-reward pick for the Commanders.
