In this story:

Dorian Thompson-Robinson, QB

Height: 6-foot-1⅝”
Weight: 203 lbs.
Class: Fifth-year Senior
School: UCLA

Dorian Thompson-Robinson was the 36th-ranked overall prospect and second-highest-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 recruiting class coming from the powerhouse Bishop Gorman out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Thompson-Robinson committed to UCLA over Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, and many others.

Strengths

  • Five years of Pac-12 starting experience with improvement year over year
  • Has enough arm strength for hole-shot throws against zone coverage
  • Plus athleticism allows his legs to make up for his average arm
  • Does a good job of extending plays with his legs and looking to find the open man
  • Has a tight spiral on his passes consistently
  • Does a good job of sitting in the pocket when he has time and trusting his progressions
  • Can kill in the RPO game with quick, short throws
  • Has shown up big in clutch moments
  • Can make a man miss in the open field
  • Team leader

Weaknesses

  • Tends to make some poor decisions as a passer, forcing throws when he doesn’t need to
  • Has struggled with fumbles throughout his career
  • Struggles mightily when under pressure
  • Mechanics need to get in sync and sped up a little bit at the next level
  • Turnovers desperately need to be cleaned up

Summary

Thompson-Robinson is far from a finished product but possesses key traits that NFL coaches can work with and will want to develop long-term with a high character that all locker rooms would appreciate. His physical skillset sounds eerily similar to what Daniel Jones brought to the table when he was coming out of Duke so the Giants could see Thompson-Robinson and recognize that if he ever does need to play, the offensive system won’t need to change much.
