Giants Sign John Michael Schmitz to Rookie Deal
New York Giants center John Michael Schmitz, the team's second-round draft pick this year, has signed his rookie contract, the team announced Tuesday.
Schmitz, formerly of the University of Minnesota, was the 57th overall selection last month. He is expected to compete for the starting center role this summer.
At Minnesota, Schmitz played in 57 games with 35 starts and started all 31 games in which he played in his final three seasons.
Schmitz's deal is for four years and an estimated $6.373 million, which includes a $1.635 million signing bonus. He will count for $1.158 million against the team's 2023 salary cap.
Schmitz's signing now means that the Giants have their entire 2023 draft class--cornerback Deonte Banks of Maryland (first round), wide receiver Jalin Hyatt of Tennessee (third), running back Eric Gray of Oklahoma (fifth), cornerback Tre Hawkins of Old Dominion (sixth) and defensive tackle Jordon Riley of Oregon and safety Gervarrius Owens of Houston (seventh)--under contract.
