Giants Holding Breath Regarding Andrew Thomas's Hamstring Injury

Andrew Thomas is the one player the Giants can ill afford to be without for any length of time.

As if Sunday Night's 40-0 humbling by the Dallas Cowboys wasn't bad enough, the New York Giants are holding their breath regarding the status of left tackle Andrew Thomas.

Thomas suffered a hamstring strain while trying to chase down Noah Igbinoghene, who returned a blocked field goal 58 yards for the Cowboys' first score of the night. Although Thomas tried to gut it out, it eventually became too much for him, and he had to come out of the game after partaking in just 53 of the offense's 70 snaps.

“He fought through,” said Giants head coach Brian Daboll. “I think he had a little bit of a hammy going in there.”

Thomas, who was to have an MRI on Monday, was initially replaced by Matt Peart, but Peart suffered an arm injury and had to leave the game as well. He was replaced by Joshua Ezeudu, who hasn't played offensive tackle since being drafted by the Giants last year (but who did play it in college at North Carolina).

After the game, Thomas sat slumped on a stool in front of his locker, making no attempt to hide his disappointment in his play against the Cowboys, which included a pair of penalties.

“I’m supposed to be a captain and a leader. And I don’t think I played to that standard today,” he said.

Daboll is scheduled to speak to the media on Monday afternoon, but it's unlikely he'll provide a definitive update on Thomas's status or that of any of the injured Giants until the team next has to file a practice report on Wednesday.
