Giants TE Coach Andy Bischoff Leaving Team for New Post

Bischoff reportedly joins new Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh's staff in Los Angeles.

New York Giants tight ends coach Andy Bischoff is leaving the team to join the Los Angeles Chargers under new head coach Jim Harbaugh, according to Football Scoop, who broke the news first.

Bischoff will be the Chargers' new tight ends coach and run game coordinator, the additional responsibility resulting in the Giants granting Bischoff permission to leave.

Bischoff, who has been with the Giants since 2022, worked with Greg Roman in Baltimore. Roman is reportedly expected to join Harbaugh's staff in a still-to-be-determined "prominent" offensive role.

The Giants already have two unfilled vacancies on head coach Brian Daboll's staff, the biggest being their defensive coordinator role, which was vacated when Wink Martindale resigned last month.

New York has interviewed eight candidates for that role, including their own defensive backs coach, Jerome Henderson, and more recently Vikings defensive backs coach Daronte Jones, but have not had success as of yet in filling the vacancy.

The Giants also have an opening for an outside linebackers coach after head coach Brian Daboll fired Drew Wilkins from the post. But Daboll may merge those responsibilities with those held by inside linebackers coach John Egorugwu to "fill" that vacancy.

As for the now reported opening at tight ends coach, it's worth noting that Angela Baker, whom Daboll hired as part of his initial staff as an offensive quality control coach, could be considered for a promotion given how during her time with the Giants, she spent the bulk of her time working with Bischoff in the tight ends room. Baker was also recently the tight ends coach at the Shrine Bowl.
