The Giants are trading inside linebacker B.J. Goodson, their fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft.

The Giants initially announced that Goodson, their fourth-round pick in 2016 out of Clemson, was waived. However, the NFL Network is reporting that the Giants are sending Goodson to the Packers.

Goodson, who was in the final year of his rookie deal, has 123 career tackles, a half-sack, 6 pass breakups, 2 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles.

He has dealt with injuries on and off in his Giants career after getting off to a promising start in 2017 when he was promoted to the starting lineup.

The Giants initially kept Goodson on their 53-man roster, but after seeing him slide down the depth chart while Tae Davis and rookie Ryan Connelly passed him, it was clear that Goodson was on borrowed time with the Giants.

The Giants filled the vacant roster spot with linebacker David Mayo, who spent four seasons with the Carolina Panthers. Mayo, 6-foot-2, 240 pounds was most recently with San Francisco.

Mayo was drafted by Carolina in the fifth round in 2015 out of Texas State. He played in 59 games with four starts and was recorded 34 tackles (23 solo) and two passes defensed plus 32 special teams tackles.

Mayo, who played in all 16 games the last two seasons, posted a career-high 16 tackles (10 solo) in 2017.

Mayo, who was on the Panthers Super Bowl team, played in all 16 games each of the previous two seasons and started a career-high three games last year.
