Odell Beckham Jr Has Another Message for Giants' Newest No. 13

Giants rookie receiver Jalin Hyatt will wear Beckham's old Giants jersey number 13.

Former New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who set numerous records during his time with Big Blue, had a public message for current Giants rookie receiver Jalin Hyatt, who will don Beckham's famous No. 13 this season with the Giants.

Beckham, who has been very welcoming to the young receiver even though they are not teammates, joked with Hyatt in the spring after the team traded up to land the former Tennessee Vol in the third round of the draft about breaking his Giants franchise records.

But all kidding aside, Beckham, now a member of the Baltimore Ravens after flirting with a possible return to the team that drafted him 14th overall in 2014 out of LSU, is not only okay with Hyatt possibly toppling his Giants rookie franchise records, but he's also cool with the young man wearing the jersey number he made famous with the club.

Meanwhile, Hyatt, who understands the significance of the jersey number he'll wear this season, is determined to make his own story this season.

"What he did here--he had a great career with the Giants and kind of took over," Hyatt said this week after choosing the new jersey number.

"I was a fan when I was young watching him. High school, college, and now being here, but just with the jersey number, it’s just one of those things I wanted to start my own legacy. I like low numbers; if I had to choose a number, it’d be 11. But it’s retired here, so can’t go with that one, so 13 would be the next option."

Unlike Beckham, who was the Giants offense right out of the game once he was healthy from a hamstring strain that cost him his first four games as a rookie, the expectations are not quite as high as far as Hyatt's initial production, not with other playmakers like tight end Darren Waller, receiver Parris Campbell, running back Saquon Barkley, and others on the roster.

As far as Hyatt is concerned, he'll get his opportunities, and when he does, he plans to be ready to cash in on them as he continues his growth into a legitimate NFL receiving threat.
