Giants routed by Cowboys, 35-17

New year, same problems for the New York Giants, who after taking a 7-0 lead against the Dallas Cowboys on a 1-yard touchdown pass thrown by Eli Manning to tight end Evan Engram, never saw the lead again, falling to the Cowboys 35-17 at AT&T Stadium.
The Cowboys scored 21 unanswered points in the first half, as the Giants defense proved that it still has a lot of work left to do with both the pass rush and the coverage.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott finished with a perfect passer rating of 158.3 after completing 25 of 32 pass attempts for 405 yards and four touchdowns--two to the team's tight ends--against a Giants defense that came up empty in the sack and quarterback hits columns.
Starting Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, fresh off of signing his new multi-year contract extension, received 13 carries for 53 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Giants running back Saquon Barkley finished with 120 rushing yards on 11 carries, including a long of 59 yards on the first series while tight end Evan Engram caught 11 of 14 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown, but neither effort was enough firepower to help the offense get into any kind of rhythm.
Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones finished the game after the 2:00 warning. He completed three of four pass attempts for 17 yards, but lost a fumble on a scramble.
The Giants will open their 2019 home schedule next week against Buffalo, who knocked off the Jets at MetLife Stadium this week, 17-16.
