Giants re-sign TJ Jones

With Sterling Shepard (concussion) and Darius Slayton (hamstring)  ailing and Golden Tate still serving his suspension, the Giants have brought back their preseason receiving leader, T.J. Jones.

When Giants head coach Pat Shurmur said goodbye to receiver T.J. jones as part of the roster cuts from 90 to 53-men, he, as he did with several other players, advised Jones to stay ready just in case.

That "just in case" moment has happened, as the Giants have signed Jones to add depth to a receiver unit that's been hit hard by injury.

Sterling Shepard (concussion) and Darius Slayton (hamstring) are unlikely to play in Sunday's Week 2 game against the Bills and Golden Tate remains suspended.

The Giants are looking at having Cody Latimer, who started alongside of Shepard in last week's game, an Bennie Fowler as their starters this weekend, with Russell Shepard contributing when the team goes to 11-personnel.

"Cody, Bennie, and Russell Shepard have been in the offense, they all played last year," quarterback Eli Manning said.

"They know what to do and have made plays for us."

Jones, who finished with 146 yards on 12 catches and two touchdowns, can also return punts if needed.

To make room for Jones, the Giants will place outside linebacker Kareem Martin on injured reserve.

Martin, who sprained his knee against Dallas, would be eligible to be designated to return in Week 10 if the Giants intend to bring him back.
