Eli Manning: "Business as usual" as Giants consider a change at quarterback

If nothing else, Giants quarterback Eli Manning has become a master at displaying a poker face when his job security has come under fire.

But even Manning, who stood at his locker Monday answering a stream of questions about his immediate future and who insisted that it was "business as usual" for him

"I have to get ready to play a game," he said. "Nothing changes. Get ready for Tampa and figure out a way to get a win."

the problem for Manning is he might not be as involved in trying to figure out how to win against the Bucs Sunday, not if head coachh Pat Shurmur decides to pull the plug on Manning's 16-plus year run as the Giants starting quarterback.

"Obviously, Eli’s been our starter to this point," Shurmur said, adding, "I’m not really ready to get into any of those conversations about any position."

When asked if he meant with the media, Shurmur clarified that he and members of the organization were going to "address all areas and try to find ways to put a winning performance on the field."

Manning said he understood where the organization was coming from.

"We are 0-2 and we are looking for answers. I get it," he said. "When you draft a guy early and you’re not winning games, these are going to come up. I just have to keep working and do what my job is."

And if Manning needs any more motivation beyond the fire that's now blazing under his backside, well, nothing has changed there.

"The motivation is to win; there’s nothing more than that," he said. "You want to win, that’s why you work hard, that’s why you train, that’s why you do everything and prepare in practice, so you can go out there and win football games and build something special. Nothing changes."
