Former New York Giants receiver Travis Rudolph, who was with the team from 2017-2018, was found not guilty of murder by a Florida jury following a two-week trial in which the former Florida State star claimed he acted in self-defense.

Rudolph faced one count of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder for an incident that left one man dead during an incident on April 7, 2021, outside of his Lake Park home.

Rudolph, a cousin of former NFL star Devin Hester, first made national headlines in April 2017 when, during a visit to a middle school in Tallahassee with his teammates, he joined Bo Paske, an autistic student who was eating by himself, for lunch.

"I asked if I could sit next to him, and he said, 'Sure, why not?'" Rudolph said at the time. "I just felt like we had a great conversation. He started and was so open. He told me his name was Bo and how much he loves Florida State, and he went from there.

"I was just a kid not too long ago, and I remember what the impact was of guys that played in college and in the NFL coming back to us," Rudolph said. "So I feel like maybe I can change someone's life, or I can make someone a better person or make someone want to be great or be like me, or even better."

Rudolph went undrafted out of Florida State and was signed by the Giants as a free agent. He appeared in seven games in 2017, with one start, and caught eight of 21 pass targets for 101 yards after finishing the preseason as the team's receiving yardage leader (157).

The 27-year-old Rudolph said he'd like to resume his football career.
