The New York Giants hired former All-Pro safety Mike Adams as their new assistant special teams coach.

Adams replaces Dr. Anthony Blevins, who accepted the head coaching job last month with the Vegas Vipers of the XFL after serving on the Giants coaching staff since 2018. He joins special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey and first-year special teams assistant Stephen Thomas on that side of the ball.

Adams was originally an undrafted free agent out of Delaware who had a stellar NFL career as a safety. He signed with the 49ers in 2004, playing for them through the 2006 season. He then spent the 2007-2011 seasons with the Browns before moving to Denver from 2012-2013 and then the Colts in 2014, with whom he earned two Pro Bowl berths.

Adams, a Paterson, New Jersey native, finished his NFL career with stints for the Panthers (2017-2018) and Texans (2019). He finished his 16-year career, having appeared in 228 games played with 149 games started, logging 935 tackles, 90 pass breakups, 30 interceptions, 15 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, and 13 forced fumbles.

He also played in 10 postseason games with eight starts, including the Broncos' Super Bowl XLVIII loss to Seattle in MetLife Stadium.

Adams broke into the NFL coaching ranks in 2021 as an assistant defensive backs coach for the Bears. He served as a coaching intern with the Giants last summer.
