Giants Week 1 Injury Impact Report

Right tackle Mike Remmers (illness/back) is a new addition to the injury report.
Remmers was on the side during the part of practice open to the media. Although Remmers couldn’t practice today, the expectation is that he’ll be ready to go Sunday.
The Giants better cross their fingers that remains the case. Per Pro Football Focus, both Chad Slade and Nick Gates, the backup tackles, allowed three pressures apiece during the preseason, grading out among the lowest of the Giants tackles in run-blocking (but among the highest in pass blocking).
It remains to be seen if the Giants plan to manage Remmers' practice reps this season.
Receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring) will “probably not” make it in time for Sunday’s regular-season opener against the Cowboys.
Slayton first tweaked the hamstring at the start of training camp, but worked his way back into the lineup, making a brief appearance in the Giants’ third preseason game this summer.
However, he aggravated the injury in that game and has been sidelined since. Slayton, the team’s fifth-round draft pick this year, is being counted on to provide a deep threat for the team this season.
That he wasn’t placed on injured reserve after initially being added to the 53-man roster suggests that Slayton could return to action before the minimum six-week period he’d otherwise have to spend on injured reserve.
Tight end Garret Dickerson (quad) is another player whom Shurmur said “probably won’t” make it for Sunday’s game.
Dickerson beat out undrafted rookie C.J. Conrad for a roster spot with Conrad having been signed to the practice squad. Dickerson ended up being the slightly better option ahead of Conrad, whose blocking needs an infusion of power.
Still, with Dickerson’s return date unknown, the Giants appear to be taking a little bit of a gamble considering they’re an offense that, based on last year’s stats, ran 12-personnel as much as it did 11-personnel.
In other Giants injury news, linebacker Nate Stupar (concussion) and cornerback Antonio Hamilton (adductor) were full participants in practice.
