Michael Kay Show Issues Apology to Brian Daboll for Misleading Report

In this story:
In journalism, it's better to be right about a report's accuracy than to be first to report it.
That’s a lesson that can be taken from ESPN’s The Michael Kay Show, which reported this week that New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll hosted a big party the night before the Dallas Cowboys destroyed the Giants to open the regular season.
Here, according to NJ Advance Media, is what was said on the show:
I have it on good authority that Brian Daboll had a huge party at his house on Saturday night. You’re not throwing a big party if you’re about to get your butt kicked by the Cowboys. So, this took everybody by surprise. And that’s what’s scary. Nobody expected this sort of blowout. They thought they would play with them, and they didn’t even show up.
That scares me guys. That tells me that they don’t even know their own team. There’s no way the head coach of a team throws a huge party like that the night before the opener if they think that there’s a chance that they’re going to get blown out.
Ah, but there was just one little problem with the report. It left out a very big and important piece of information, which, once added, changed the context of the otherwise unfavorable optics.
The party was for Daboll’s six-year-old son.
When the error was brought to light, the MKS issued an apology to the head coach, his family, and the Giants.
Yup, that Oscar Wilde quote about making an assumption sure is applicable here, isn’t it?
