Odell Beckham Jr Lands with Ravens

Giants were still interested in their one-time receiver. So why did things go astray?

Former New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham's seemingly endless free-agent tour has finally ended.

The receiver, who was being courted by both the Jets and Giants--he had a visit planned with the Jets for this coming week--agreed to a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens, who, per the NFL Network, will sign a one-year deal worth up to $18 million with $15 million guaranteed.

The Giants, who hosted Beckham on an official free agency visit last winter, remained interested in a possible reunion, even attending the receiver's workout in Arizona last month.

However, the stumbling block was always going to be money, as Beckham, who is coming off two ACL tears, including the one that kept him out of the league last year, reportedly was looking for a rich payday on what could potentially be his final NFL contract.

With the Giants unable to compete financially for Beckham at the price he was seeking, the Jets attempted to step up in pursuing the 30-year-old.  

Beckham, per reports, was due to begin a multiday visit with the Jets on Monday. During that time, he was to take a physical and meet with Jets head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas about the specific role he would play with the team.

However, the Ravens apparently stepped up to the plate with a richer contract, and now Beckham joins a Ravens team attempting to break a stalemate with franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Beckham played for the Giants from 2014-2018. He set numerous records during his rookie campaign, including becoming the first NFL rookie with at least 12 catches, 140 yards, and three scores in a game, also tying tight end Mark Bavaro for most receptions in a game by a Giants rookie. 

Beckham also set a rookie record by recording over 90 receiving yards in seven consecutive games and posted 61 receptions, another rookie record for the most ever receptions by a first-year player in a seven-game span.
