Robinson tore his ACL in Week 11 last year in a game that saw him post his first 100-yard receiving performance. He spent all of the off-season and summer on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list but passed his physical just before the Giants made their roster cuts from 90 to 53.
The 22-year-old has spent the time since ramping up to get back into football shape. Robinson told Giants Country two weeks ago that he was feeling good and not even thinking about his surgically repaired knee, in which he added that he was growing increasingly confident with its ability to hold up.
Robinson's return would give the Giants an interesting addition to their offense's arsenal. In his three-year college career (two seasons at Nebraska, one at Kentucky), Robinson rushed 141 times for 691 yards and four touchdowns, a 49 yards per carry average.
With the Giants running game missing Saquon Barkley this week due to his sprained ankle, Robinson could be an option to see a few snaps out of the backfield if he does indeed play, a role that the team was thought to be planning for receiver Parris Campbell, who has yet to have a rushing attempt this season out of the backfield.
If Robinson were to be activated, that would potentially give the Giants six healthy receivers--Robinson, Campbell, Sterling Shepard, Isaiah Hodgins, Darius Slayton, and Jalin Hyatt--for the game unless one was deactivated.
Although head coach Brian Daboll said that they can have all the receivers active (which by rule they can), the odds that they carry all six on the roster aren't very good if one considers that only Campbell, Hodgins, and Slayton have contributed so far this season on special teams.
With Hyatt unlikely to be inactive, that could mean Shepard, who fielded a punt for the Giants in the preseason, ends up as the odd man out if the Giants need the roster spot for another position.
