2022 NFL Combine: Day 2 Takeaways

In this story:
The Lions and the rest of the NFL's 32 teams got the chance to check out the offensive linemen and running backs at the 2022 NFL scouting combine Friday.
Without further ado, here are four takeaways from Day 2 of the combine.
Kenneth Walker III likely established himself as RB1 on many teams' draft boards
If Walker wasn't already the No. 1 running back in this year's draft class, he likely now is, after his dominant performance Friday at the combine.
He not only ran an impressive 4.38 40-yard dash. But, he also recorded a broad jump of 10-foot-2 and a vertical jump of 34 inches.
While running back is not a big position of need for the Lions, if the organization believes that Walker can be a true bell-cow back and allow D'Andre Swift to slide into the role of a No. 2 RB, then I wouldn't be opposed to Detroit taking the Michigan State product in the second round (No. 34 overall).
UTSA OL Spencer Burford could be Day 3 target of Lions
The University of Texas at San Antonio product is an intriguing prospect for the Lions to consider on the final day of the draft.
The 6-foot-4, 304-pound lineman can start at both tackle positions and on the inside at guard. If you remember right, he also lined up at left tackle for Detroit's coaching staff at the Senior Bowl.
All of this added up, along with the fact that he has the necessary frame to play guard, makes Burford a lineman the Lions might target on Day 3.
Small-school prospects Trevor Penning and Bernhard Raimann both impressed
Northern Iowa's Penning and Central Michigan's Raimann each had a nice day at the combine Friday.
The former tight end in Raimann ran a solid 5.12 40-yard dash, and he recorded the second-best athleticism score of all offensive linemen at the 2022 combine (96), according to NFL's Next Gen Stats.
Athleticism scores for the 2022 offensive line class are now official.

Among offensive tackles, three prospects finished with an athleticism score of 90-plus:
🥇 Zach Tom, @WakeFB (99)
🥈 Bernhard Raimann, @CMU_Football (96)
🥉 Trevor Penning, @UNIFootball (90)#NextGenScores pic.twitter.com/USlfjcDibG
Along with that, he posted impressive marks in both the vertical jump (30.5") and broad jump (9'9").
Then, there's Penning, who finished right behind Raimann in athleticism score (90) and posted an insanely good 4.91 40-yard dash.
The 6-foot-7, 325-pounder can also execute a windmill dunk.

If you didn't previously think these guys were athletic freaks, you surely do now.
Hassan Haskins is one strong man
The former standout Michigan running back led all backs with an impressive 27 bench-press reps Friday.

For the purpose of context, the average number of such reps from a RB at the 2020 combine was 19.4.
Haskins is presently projected to be taken anywhere from the third-sixth round.
