5 Takeaways from Day 4 of 2023 NFL Combine

In this story:

On the final day of on-field drills at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, the running backs and offensive linemen took the field to show off their skills.

The best of the best at each position participated in on-field tests and drills. This brought the conclusion to four days of testing for hundreds of players projected to be drafted during the NFL Draft, which is scheduled for April 27-29 in Kansas City.

Here are five takeaways from Sunday’s events at the combine

Bijan Robinson lives up to the hype

Robinson is a top-tier prospect, but the positional value at running back has brought questions about where he’ll be drafted in April. His performance Sunday justified him being a first-round pick with high upside.

The Texas product ran a 4.46 40-yard dash, and showed off explosiveness with his performance in the jumps. Additionally, he wowed during the running back drills, with his footwork and short-yardage burst.

Robinson has the necessary versatility to be an asset in the passing game, in addition to his run-game prowess. He likely excited plenty of scouts, and made his case to be drafted early in the first round with his performance Sunday.

Deuce Vaughn: Small in stature, big in potential

Deuce Vaughn’s height did him no favors Sunday, as he measured 5-foot-5 to become the smallest player ever measured at the combine. However, he made up for that with a good showing in on-field drills.

His size is certainly a concern, but the production he was able to put together at Kansas State raises eyebrows. He’s a back-to-back 1,000-plus-yard rusher, and scored 34 touchdowns in three years with the Wildcats.

During his on-field segment, Vaughn demonstrated all the skills that made him an exceptional player despite his below-average size. Quickness, vision and change of direction are all attributes that make him an intriguing prospect. All were on display, and he could thrive in the right situation as a pro.

Dawand Jones’ massive day

One of the combine’s biggest participants was Ohio State’s Dawand Jones, who measured in at 6-foot-8, 374 pounds. Aside from having more than enough size to succeed in the NFL, though, he also showed that he has some athleticism Sunday.

Jones ran a 5.35 40-yard dash, which is outstanding for a player his size. His combination of size and speed projects as one that will help him to combat speed rushers at the NFL level. Though he doesn’t have the fine-tuned skills of the top prospects at his position, plenty of teams salivated at his showing Sunday.

Sidy Sow showcases athleticism

An under-the-radar prospect from Eastern Michigan, Sidy Sow established himself as one of the better athletes in this year’s offensive line class. He moved with an elegant grace Sunday, running a 5.07 40-yard dash and recording a 9-foot-2 jump in the broad and a 32" jump in the vertical.

He excelled in the on-field drills as well, demonstrating good footwork in his pass-drop reps. A tackle at EMU, he is projected to slide inside at the NFL level. Everything he showed Sunday displayed he has the potential to excel at the position.

Torrence disappoints

O’Cyrus Torrence is one of the NFL Draft’s top interior offensive line prospects, so he entered Sunday with high expectations. However, he didn’t measure up, as he struggled a bit during his time on the field.

His numbers in the jumps were below average, as he jumped 23.5" inches in the vertical jump and 8-foot-5 in the broad. His 5.31 "40" time also left more to be desired, in terms of explosiveness.

Torrence will still be a much-desired prospect come April, but he missed out on an opportunity to create real separation from the field on Sunday.
