Matt Patricia: "We Show A Lot of Bad Football"

Lions head man Matt Patricia pointed out some of the struggles of the team in his post game media session following the Lions 31-24 loss to the Oakland Raiders.

Patricia expressed, "Penalties, can't have them. Gave them too many opportunities. We knew it was going to be a penalty game and we have to do a better job of being disciplined in those situations."

"In general, it always starts with me. I don't think we played consistently today. We showed some good flashes. We show some good football and then we show a lot of bad football. And that is just stuff that is killing us."

The Lions offense is consistently making plays and Stafford has been heralded for his comeback season. He has been targeting Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones and the frequency of big plays has increased.

Unfortunately, the lack of a running game will haunt the Lions.

When Patricia watches film of the game, what must he think of the linebacking corps getting beat repeatedly in coverage? Or the secondary giving up big plays, not breaking up passes consistently, missing several tackles and struggling with coverage assignments.

Or Jarrad Davis getting called for pass interference on a 3rd down and 12 that extended a drive for the Raiders. Mistakes have oftentimes led to points for the opponent this season. The Raiders went on to kick a field goal and took the lead 10-7 in the first half.

The Lions defense continued to struggle against the rush. Josh Jacobs rushed for 120 yards on 28 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Derek Carr was not pressured to a degree that was meaningful.

"A lot of times, games like this and unfortunately we have been in a couple of them, when it is up and down like that it usually is just inconsistency all the way around and I have to find a way to take that out of there," Patricia said.
