At this point in the 2019 season, the Lions find themselves with a losing record at 3-5-1.

There has already been a question directed at head coach Matt Patricia by the Detroit media regarding his job status.

In reviewing what has been ailing this team, it is quite obvious what the areas of weakness are.

For whatever reason, the Lions' rushing attack has been subpar for several seasons now.

Some can even argue that franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford has never truly had a No. 1 running back to hand the football off to.

After the 2019 season is over, there will be a handful of free agent running backs available that the Lions can target to drastically improve their rushing attack.

Arguably one of the best running backs in the NFL is the Tennessee Titans' Derrick Henry.

Drafted out of Alabama in 2016, he has become a reliable offensive threat for the Titans.

He, along with Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Dorsett, holds the NFL record with a 99-yard rushing touchdown.

According to The Athletic, "Since the final month of the 2018 season, Henry leads the NFL in rushing yards (1,417) and rushing touchdowns (15), and he’s topped the 75-yard mark in 11 of those 14 games."

Henry will be in search of a new contract when the season ends, as a result of his current deal expiring at the end of this year.

Unlike Lions running back Kerryon Johnson, Henry has shown a strong level of durability in his four seasons in the NFL.

In fact, through four NFL seasons, Henry has played in 57 of a possible 58 games.

He has not suffered any major injuries, and seems to be entering his prime.

It begs the question: Should the Lions be the franchise that inks him to a long-term contract this upcoming offseason?
