Muggsy Bogues Approves Panthers' Selection of Bryce Young

As they say, it's not about the size of the dog, it's about the size of the fight in the dog.

In this story:

Bryce Young won't be the first undersized player to take the Queen City by storm. Former Charlotte Hornets guard Muggsy Bogues did so from 1988-1997. To this day, Bogues remains the shortest player to ever play in the NBA, standing in at just 5'3".

For what it's worth, Muggsy approves of the Panthers' pick.

Young isn't quite as small as Muggsy but for an NFL quarterback, he's severely undersized at 5'10". But the height was never an issue for the Panthers which is why he was taken with the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

GM Scott Fitterer mentioned that Young only had two passes batted down, so really the only concern they had was his slender frame. The good thing is that's something they can help him with.

"I think nutritionally we can do some things to educate him," Fitterer said in a pre-draft press conference a couple of weeks back. "We can get him in the weight room. You can see when you really look at his lower body, his lower body has gotten bigger. He's put on a lot of mass down there. He's going to naturally put on size as he ages. Again, going back to Russ [Wilson], he may have came out 206 pounds. Now he's 220. I mean, guys just grow. That's something he can control. That's something we can help him with. We can't control the height."
